Storytelling and Advocacy

Overview

Turning stories into sparks for action.

We use storytelling to make climate conversations relatable and to spotlight youth voices driving change. Our storytelling programs create safe, creative spaces for young people to share, learn, and inspire action in their communities.

why it matters

Climate change is often communicated through data, statistics, and scientific projections—important information that can feel overwhelming, abstract, or disconnected from people’s lived experiences. Graphs showing rising temperatures and reports about melting ice caps, while factually critical, rarely move people to action in the way that human stories do. This gap between knowing about climate change and feeling compelled to act on it represents one of the biggest challenges in the environmental movement. Without emotional connection and personal relevance, even the most urgent warnings struggle to break through.

Stories have always been humanity’s most powerful tool for creating meaning, building empathy, and inspiring change. A single narrative about a community adapting to drought, a young person leading a local cleanup, or a family transitioning to sustainable living can communicate more about climate reality than a dozen reports. Stories make the global personal and the abstract tangible. They show us not just what’s at stake, but who is affected and who is already building solutions. In a world saturated with information, stories cut through the noise by speaking to our hearts as much as our minds.

Young people, in particular, need platforms to share their perspectives on the environmental challenges they’re inheriting. Their voices carry unique authenticity and urgency. Yet youth perspectives are often marginalized in environmental discourse, dismissed as inexperienced or overly idealistic. When we create safe, creative spaces for young people to tell their stories, we don’t just validate their experiences, we tap into a wellspring of innovation, passion, and moral clarity that can reshape how entire communities think about sustainability.

By centering storytelling and amplifying youth voices, we transform climate conversation from a distant scientific debate into a deeply human dialogue about values, futures, and possibilities. Stories create bridges between different communities, ages, and backgrounds, helping people see themselves in the climate movement. They turn passive audiences into engaged participants, witnesses into advocates. Most importantly, when young people share their stories and see the impact those stories have, they discover their own power to influence change, not someday in the future, but right now in their schools, neighborhoods, and networks. That realization is the spark that turns concern into action.
